Men who eat a lot of soy have lower sperm counts

A scientific research from the Harvard University in Boston revealed that the amount of soja products eaten by men might have a reducing effect on the amount of their sperm.

The amount of sperm was noticeably reduced in men who regularly ate many soja products and who were overweight. Earlier it could be proven that there is a connection between the consumption of soy, which contains herbal hormones, and infertility.

In their study the nutritionist Jorge Chavarro and his colleagues examined 99 men who were treated in a sterility clinic in the years 2000-2006.

In a group of patients who ate significantly large numbers of soy products, the average number of spermatozoa per millilitre of ejaculation was only 41 million. Usually, a ejaculation contains 80- 120 million sperms per millilitre.

Chavarro assumes that the herbal hormones in the soy products have an effect on the amount of sperm. This effect could possibly be exacerbated by overweight, as thin men produce less oestrogen than overweight men.
